The National Library of Luxembourg is recruiting a Manager for its national digital consortium, who will be reporting to the coordinator of consortial services.
The consortium is small, young and dynamic. It is entirely focussed on digital content and was launched by the National Library in 2006 with the University of Luxembourg and has since included three public research centers in its « Consortium Luxembourg » structure. It has just been rebranded as « findit.lu » and the Primo discovery layer is scheduled for deployment during 2012. Consortial services are centralised at the National Library, whose IT services also manages all systems. The consortium is a key player in developping the knowledge society, serving academia, research and the general public. A national access policy is in place, including remote access for all national library patrons, as well as sustained investment in content, interfaces and administrative tools.
The job is based in the Kirchberg area of Luxembourg city, the contract is a fulltime position (40 hrs/week) with a duration of 5 years, with a perspective to become permanent. The contract type is not an « employee » contract but an « independent consultant » contract (see conditions below).
Responsibilities and tasks:
The successful candidate will develop, lead and implement consortial strategy including administrative processes, online service development, communication and training in close cooperation with the National Library’s IT services, the members of the Consortium and the National Library network « bibnet.lu » which includes public and school libraries.
In order to fully understand processes, the candidate will execute a full year cycle of consortial administration, including subscription management, bi-annual statistics gathering and reporting, using existing processes and tools. During the contract period, additional administrative staff is expected to be hired and support from outgoing consortial staff, as well as the consortium’s coordinator, is available. One of the strategic tasks which requires immediate attention is the provision of e-books, for the libraries of the national bibnet.lu network (mostly public libraries).
Compensation is competitive and the position has excellent development opportunities for a motivated candidate.
- English and French are required and both used on a daily basis, written and spoken. Any other languages, particularly German and Luxembourgish are considered an advantage.
- Formal education at Bachelor level is a requirement. An advanced degree in a relevant field such as library science, information science, etc. is an advantage.
- Professional experience is an advantage, as is a proven track record to pick up new skills and tools.
- Knowledge of consortium related software is an advantage.Consortium Luxembourg uses MetaLib, Ustats et SFX from ExLibris ; EZProxy from OCLC and the CORAL ERM system.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in an international and multilingual environment are required.
